Life unfolds more swiftly than we think as times, family, education, work, faith, community all laced with responsibilities and decisions. Through the seasons of life there are chapters that draw us in, touch our hearts, change our lives. Throughout these seasons and changes in my life I have sought to express my experience and interaction through my painting and creative process.
While I have charted my creative course through my paintings, I have never had the experience of having my own art show to exhibit my work. Through my relationship with the Framer’s Vice and Gallery in Ellicott City Maryland, the owner Thelma asked me one day, while she was measuring my next framing project, would I ever consider showing my paintings in her gallery. Her invitation evoked some questions in me that led to a creative awakening; it’s now time to show my work.
The opening reception occurred on Friday night. November 19, 2005, from 6 pm to 9 pm, to my great surprise and delight nearly 100 people came to the opening. There was much excitement and conversation as my guests enjoyed the buffet we provided for their enjoyment. My work struck a cord with those who attended the opening as 11 of 24 paintings sold on the opening night.
The title, Seasons of the Heart, is a play on my last name of Hart and the seasons of my creative journey throughout my life to this point. The experience of creating this exhibit is to invite the viewer to encounter life, nature and seasons, we as humans live each day. The gift of beauty and love undergird the journey we walk, in striving to seek understanding with each breath we take and to celebrate those moments that take our breath away.
